The Engagement of Risa + Robert

Locations: Washington, DC - SOM Records and The Smithsonian American Art Museum

Has there ever been a couple more in love?! Risa and Robert seem as much good friends as they do a loving couple.  They both share a strong affinity towards music so it was only fitting that their e-session start out in a classic, vinyl records store – SOM Records.  Once there, they were like kids in a candy store – pulling records, enjoying laughs, and stealing kisses! Their excitement was indeed a site to capture.  From there, we hopped over to the American Art Museum. Risa’s appreciation towards visual art was definitely noticed as we walked through the different exhibits.  Still, they kept their eyes on things even more beautiful – each other.

The Engagement of Kai + Imoh

Location: Washington DC – Meridian Hill Park/ Malcolm X Park

The warmth and ease during Kai and Imoh’s session was heartfelt.  Both of them were so patient during our photo session and equally willing to do what needed to be done to catch the perfect shot.  This was right when the season started to change so we welcomed the sun and touch of warm air.  We definitely enjoyed our time with Kai and Imoh and look forward to photographing the wedding.

Introducing Kalea & Shailia | Twinning

Infant photography is challenging, but “twinfant” photography is on a difficulty level on its own. I was so excited that a childhood friend of mine was expecting twins. So, I put myself up to the challenge to photograph twins, Kalea and Shailia. Here, they are two weeks old. The babies exude pure innocence and are such a blessing. I am grateful for the opportunity to capture this moment in their lives.

Here is proof. It was not easy!

The Engagement of Liz + Mark

Location: Georgetown – Cady’s Alley

Liz is a woman that knows exactly what she wants so having her choose Ashley McArthur as her engagement/wedding photographers means a lot to us!  Liz is also heaps of fun and absolutely head-over-heels in love with Mark.  This engagement session had the “seeds of brilliance” as we met in a Georgetown bar and talked about their relationship as we shared a pint.  During this time, Ashley and I learned more about them as a couple and decided the best place for the engagement session is just past the front doors of the bar – in the streets of Georgetown.  Much like any session we shoot, there is a space of difference that takes a few minutes to get used to – basically, having a 70mm lens directed at you while you are sharing an intimate moment with the one you love the most.  But that space of difference seemed not to ever exist for Liz and Mark.  They jumped right into the session.  We were very glad to have them be so comfortable with us as we started snapping away.

Recently, we have lengthened our engagement sessions from 2 hours to 5.  This allows for change of clothing and location to get more dynamic looks.  We were very glad to have Liz and Mark be our first clients for the longer, engagement session.  As we photographed them, Ashley and I enjoyed their company and humor.  Although it is technically work, it seemed much more like hanging out with a really, cool couple we’ve known for years.  Here are a few images from their session…
