Giving You Props
During our consultation, we may ask if you are interested in using any props to add to your photo session. If you don't have any, we may be able to supply some. Props are widely used for our conceptual ideas. Conceptual ideas are parts of the session that we want to convey a particular message. In this particular photo, we wanted to show this soon-to-be mother in a place of peace and practice as she learns about becoming a mother. It is such a transitive time that props like this can easily be used to highlight the experience and even make a cool keepsake.

Remember - it is a portrait session! It is always a good idea to dress the part you wish to see time and time again. Put some though into what you should wear for the photo session. Some of our clients bring a change of clothing to the session. We are totally cool with that because the changing environment or location may call for different looks.

Half of many maternity sessions are posed shots. The main reason for this is because these sessions are normally based on fine art poses. It also helps the mother to positioned in ways that are more comfortable. So when you get in that pose - find a way to sell the shot. Many times we will talk to the couple and explain the mood of the shot before they pose. In this particular shot, I talked with the couple and explained my vision. Once they got into the pose, the mother said, "I can feel him moving." They both looked down and that was it! That was my moment to snap the shot!
